Jo Anne Kor
Specialisation: Commercial, Property
joined Asia Pacific Lawyers in July 2012 and specialises in the area of
Property and Commercial Law. She read law at University of Malaya, Malaysia
and graduated with Honours in Bachelor of Laws in 2008.
Two of her most cherished
achievements during her university years were when she completed her thesis
with distinction on "The Rights of Transsexuals in the Islamic Perspective"
and when she was awarded best student in Banking Law by one of Malaysia’s
leading law firms, Shook Lin & Bok. She commenced her career in Malaysia
before moving to Australia where she was admitted as a Barrister and
Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and resumed legal practice.
Jo Anne has previously been involved
in and handled a variety of matters including corporate restructuring,
separation and divorce, preparing Wills and Power of Attorney documents,
litigation and insolvency. The experience gained from her prior course of
practice has provided her the ability to apply to her knowledge in providing
practical legal solutions.
A number of her previous distinguished involvements
assisting in a major restructuring project
for one of the leading companies in Malaysia, The Lion Group;
drafting projects and
development contracts for an affiliated foundation of a primary
organization in wildlife conservation and endangered species, World
acting for the Defendants
in a landmark case involving a collapsed Australian securities and
lending and stockbroking firm, Opes Prime; and
preparing full submission
to the Foreign Investment Review Board for a development project
worth approximately $800 million.
Having worked alongside some of the
most prominent lawyers in her past, Jo Anne has adopted the essential values
of integrity, honesty and fair play into every aspect of her work and
personal life. Believing in the highest standards of work ethics, Jo Anne
always endeavours to assist clients with an aim of protecting the client’s
Jo Anne has a strong passion for music. Growing up
with the beat of music and daily sight of music notes, Jo Anne considers
music her second priority after her family. She spends her leisure time
composing songs, having jam sessions, traveling and dining. She is currently
(and almost done) working on compiling a list of places to visit so she
could travel the world with her loved ones.
